This week I met Jessica Risko Smith for coffee in Santa Barbara. She is nothing short of fabulous, which was made obvious when she ordered a chocolate drink with a side of bacon. Jessica not only was a joy to meet and chit chat with, but has an incredible talent for design. She began PreMed at Auburn University, but soon found her passion for interior design and continued on to major in it. After she graduated, she moved to Los Angeles and began working with the design firm Gensler. During her time in LA, she met her husband and, after 8 years in the city, moved to Santa Barbara, starting her own design firm - Jessica Risko Smith Interior Design (JRS ID).
Her focus is to have the clients express themselves in the design. She puts a twist on their style to make their space feel like them. Her style is clean, classic, not too serious, but straightforward. Jessica follows a project through, from picking out colors and fabrics to the finishing touches and end result. She begins with a piece that tells the story of the space. Whether it be a piece of marble, or a fabric swatch for a couch - that piece sparks the design process. Her design helps make the clients’ lives easier and more fun. It lets them express their lifestyle.
